Proceeded overseas to France, 23 March 1917; joined 4th Bn, NZ Rifle Brigade, in the field, 25 May 1917, and posted to A Company.

Wounded in action, 12 September 1917 (gun shot wound, left shoulder); admitted to 113th Field Ambulance, 13 September 1917, and transferred same day to 41st Casualty Clearing Station; to No 18 General Hospital, Camiers, 16 September 1917; to No 6 Convalescent Depot, Etaples, 20 September 1917; to Base Depot, Etaples, 24 September 1917; rejoined unit, in the field, 8 October 1917.

Killed in action, 12 October 1917.
