Military Medal

'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty as Battalion Sniper and Observer during the recent operations from 14th August to 7th September in PuisieuxBapaume Area and in particular on 4th September when he did splendid work at great personal risk by getting out into a shell hole and picking off German machine-gunners who were inflicting casualties on our troops. Again on 5th September when a Lewis gun team was out of action, he rushed over to the gun, put it into action himself, and continued to fire it into the enemy troops.
